Making Homes Lead-Safe
MAHA works to increase assistance for homeowners and landlords who wish to delead their homes. We encouraged the city of Boston in 1993 to apply for federal funds to establish the city’s first-ever grant/loan program to make homes lead-safe. Today, LeadSafe Boston and MassHousing’s Get the Lead Out program stand as models for others around the country.
Our organization has been instrumental in a coalition of housing groups and health care centers that is urging passage of a bill that would allow the Attorney General to file suit against lead paint manufacturers using the theory of "market share liability". Evidence shows that paint companies knew of the serious dangers of lead paint poisoning in the early 1900's and yet continued to use it in paint until it was banned by the federal government in 1978.
Help us make Boston a more affordable place for your family.
