Testimonials

Since our first class in 1991, over 12,000 people have come through MAHA’s doors to take advantage of a growing number of home-related educational opportunities. Many of these graduates are now outspoken advocates of our efforts. Here are a few of their stories.

Manuel Rodrigues, Raynham

"Taking the MAHA First Time Homebuyer Class was a great experience. It taught me all I needed to know and showed me how to save thousands of dollars by outlining the available mortgage programs. Without the class, I’d never have known about the Soft Second program I used to purchase my first home. Later, I was honored to help MAHA with the Soft Second funding campaign to ensure future homebuyers would have this great program available to them. I continue to participate whenever possible as I believe in what MAHA stands for. Owning a home is the greatest feeling of accomplishment. It makes all the holidays and family moments all that more special."

Manny took MAHA’s homebuyer class in Needham. He purchased an affordable single-family home through a lottery in the town of Raynham. He is married with two children.

Liz and Paul Lombard, South Boston

"When you are buying a home, it is a complicated process and MAHA helps you each step of the way. I knew I could call MAHA anytime and ask a question and get an answer I could trust. MAHA is looking out for people like us."

Liz and Paul bought an affordable three-bedroom condominium in South Boston. They graduated from a MAHA homebuyer class in Dorchester. They have five children. Paul is a retired firefighter.

Esther Maycock-Thorne, Brockton

"For a while I procrastinated in buying my home because I thought I couldn’t afford one. After attending the MAHA first-time homebuyer’s program, I realized I was not walking the road alone. The MAHA staff is very committed to their graduates and to anyone who is interested in buying a home.

Buying a home can be very stressful, but the MAHA staff was there for me every step of the way. The commitment of the staff is unquestionable and unwavering. If I had questions or concerns, I called Cortina who answered my every call. If she did not have the answers right away, she researched it and called me back or pointed me in the right direction.

Coming from a small island like Barbados, I had dreams of one day owning my own home. As a single mom, I wanted to provide security for both my daughters. I wanted them to have something to call their own. Today they do. I cannot begin to tell you how happy they are. With the combination of the MAHA staff and the SoftSecond Mortgage Program, my dreams became a reality. Not only is it a reality today, but it will continue to be one. My payments are affordable so that I can remain in my home for the long term. I was so moved by the work of MAHA, I decided to become a Homebuyers Union member to help continue the great work and help others like me get into and keep their homes. I bought my home and so can you!"

Esther bought a 4-bedroomm, single-family home for her two daughters and herself. Esther’s home has a huge yard, driveway, and even a hot tub!
